Frequently Asked Questions
A guide to training, career expectations, and opportunities at our studios.
No! Many successful instructors begin with little or no ballroom experience. What matters most is your willingness to learn, dedication to training, and enthusiasm for working with people. A background in dance, performance, athletics, or fitness can give you a head start, but it is not required. Experience in Ballet, Jazz, Gymnastics etc. is a bonus.
Instructors help students learn to dance, build confidence, and prepare for social occasions, performances, and competitions. The role also includes personal practice, ongoing professional development, building student relationships, and supporting studio activities. Helping someone feel comfortable and make progress is just as important as demonstrating a step. You must be able to stand for long periods of time and maintain high energy levels as this job does require physical fitness and stamina.
Yes. Professional dance instruction is full-time career built around movement, music, teaching, and human connection. Like any profession, it takes consistent effort and ongoing skill development. The initial introductory training period is part-time; the expectations for paid employment are discussed during recruitment.
Curiosity, coachability, professionalism, and a strong work ethic matter more than being the best dancer in the room when you begin. You should enjoy working with people, communicate well, and be willing to practice consistently. Experience in performing arts, athletics, fitness, hospitality, or customer service can bring valuable transferable skills.
Our training team includes national and world champions with decades of experience developing dancers and instructors, from complete beginners to top-level professionals. They combine technical expertise with experience teaching, mentoring, and helping people develop their potential.
We begin with a four-week introductory training and evaluation period, providing approximately 40 hours of professional dance instruction. It is not full-time, but you should expect to attend the studio daily for at least a couple of hours and practice at home. This period gives you a chance to explore the career while we assess coachability, work ethic, professionalism, interpersonal skills, and commitment to learning. Training continues as you develop your technique and teaching skills; the first four weeks are a starting point, not the completion of your professional development.
The four-week introductory period is unpaid, and the instruction is provided at no charge. It consists exclusively of training and practice. You will not perform work duties until paid employment begins. Comparable professional instruction typically costs around $150 per hour, putting the approximate retail value of 40 hours at $6,000. At the end of the introductory period, we discuss a compensation package with candidates selected to move forward. Participation does not guarantee employment.
Yes, our employees will receive a weekly salary. Increase in compensation depends on how quickly you develop the proficiency to teach, along with your interpersonal skills, professionalism, and performance. We will explain the applicable pay structure and expectations during recruitment and discuss your individual compensation package before paid employment begins.
Studios often operate during afternoons and evenings to accommodate students’ schedules. Specific hours and expectations, including any weekend or event commitments, depend on the position and studio and will be discussed during recruitment.

We also have a network of partner studios across the United States and abroad, allowing us to help facilitate placement for suitable candidates beyond Indiana. Tell us where you’re based and where you’d be open to working so we can explore potential opportunities together.
Our team will review your responses alongside current opportunities. If we see a potential match, we will reach out within five business days to arrange an introductory conversation. Not every submission will result in an invitation to interview.
